Outdoor Study Projects

The European Union "Designing the Classroom of the Future" project is developing scenarios - lesson plans that aim to advance pedagogy and embed technology.

One scenario requires students go out to explore the natural environment around the school tasked with a problem or challenge. Overview in the video below.

For more detail on this scenario, go here. The blog post below shows how a class blog can re-mix services from the Icodeon Platform to support the scenario with simulations, assessments and discussions.

Food Webs, Biodiversity and Ecosystems

All living things need food to give them the energy to grow and move. A food chain shows how each living thing gets its food. It shows who is eating who.

Look at this video about two insects - a ladybird and an aphid. Who is eating who? Which is the predator? And which is the prey?

Before you go out into the field to study food webs, you can play a game to help you understand about food webs, predators, prey, consumers and producers. Click the "Open" button to work with this game from Cambridge University Press.

This assessment from Cambridge University Press will help you check your understanding about food webs, predators, prey, consumers and producers.

When you return from your field studies, think about the discussion topic below and add your comments. What do you think?

The same content from the Icodeon Platorm re-mixed with different environments: a learning management system (Moodle), a teacher's blog (Tumblr), a social graph (Facebook), a productivity suite (Google Apps/Sites) and a mobile app.
